Dealing with Unemployment | Sadness or an Opportunity?

RelaxThe question I get nowadays is “What are you going to do?”  The answer is simple:  REST!!! After working so hard, the thing I need most is some rest and relaxation.  I took a week off while I was at work and that was nowhere near enough what I needed. Just having time to hit the beach whenever I want is pure heaven. The other thing is I get to spend time with loved ones some of which I haven’t seen in a year or two.  The sense of family and love sustains you.  Also, I now have time to learn the skills that I wanted to learn, but never had the time to.  Basically, I’m learning the overall way on how to run a website including marketing. My sense of art and music in general had been on the decline for quite a while, but now I can refine my guitar skills and learn to sketch well.  And even more important than anything else, I can focus on my health (although I have slacked a lot).  Hopefully, I will have time to get most of what I need before the next position comes up.  What would be even better is if my new position can incorporate some of these things.  Some people wonder if I get bored and with all these things that I need to do there is no way that I am or will be bored.

So in summary : Unemployment Kicks Ass!!!

Here are some bullet points on the results I have come to.

Negative Results of Unemployment :

  • No steady Paycheck
  • Not learning standard industry techniques
  • Need to do Interviews

Postive Results of Unemployment :

  • Rest
  • Opportunities to sharpen skills (possibly start your own business or learn how to)
  • Opportunities to go out, see family, friends, etc…
  • Opportunities to get healthy
  • No need to sit in traffic (wear and tear on the car), boring office meetings, office politics, and restriction on picking up new skills.
